Rob Zombie Drives Us Ant Crazy For Amdro
2012-05-03 by Original Staff
Category: Press Releases

NEW YORK --- Saatchi & Saatchi New York teams up notorious horror enthusiast, musician and director Rob Zombie to reveal how an ant infestation can truly crawl into a person's brain in the new :30 "Death Note" for ant control giant, Amdro.
"Death Note" opens on the aforementioned unhinged man at his basement desk, checking the sharpness of a blade on his knife. We cut to a closeup of the knife slowly cutting out a miniature letter. The man observes the freshly cut letter through a microscope and wildly laughs at his work. As he continues to work, he says, "Oh, you're messing with the wrong guy." The man jabs his knife into his desk and savagely laughs over his finished product, which reads, "You will die ants." The voice echoes, "When ants drive you crazy, get crazy right back." The spot cuts to a well-lit outdoor shot with the same man happily dusting his lawn with Amdro. The spot concludes with a shot of the Amdro bottle with a flickering "No mercy. No bugs" tag.

Original Uncovers Sunken Treasure with "Pirate Island"
2011-12-14 by Original Film
Category: Press Releases

LOS ANGELES, December 13, 2011 --- "Pirate Island", a feature-length documentary that recently made its world premiere on the History Channel, follows legendary underwater archeologist Barry Clifford as he searches for pirate shipwrecks in the waters near Île Sainte-Marie, a tiny island off the coast of Madagascar. As with Somali pirates today, the Indian Ocean was terrorized in the 18th century by marauding seamen, who amassed huge fortunes by pillaging commercial vessels. Clifford, the only person to previously have found a pirate shipwreck, was seeking evidence of these early pirates and their booty.
The documentary is produced by Original, a bi-coastal production company and one of the country's top producers of television commercials. The company, which produced the film entirely in-house, has a desire to create a wide range of content both as part of a diversification strategy and to develop unique opportunities for its staff of directors and other talent.
Geoffrey Madeja, who served as producer and cinematographer, developed the concept for the doc with Clifford, and led the crew on a five week shoot (that included extensive underwater shoots with dive teams). Editorial, computer animation and other post work was completed at Original's production headquarters in Los Angeles.

Original welcomes Jonathan Del Gatto
2011-07-19 by Original Film
Category: Press Releases
CULVER CITY, Calif., July 19, 2011, --- Bicoastal production house Original (formerly Original Film) has partnered with noted editor/director Jonathan Del Gatto who will serve as creative director of its newly formed postproduction division. Plans call for the new post venture to offer services spanning editorial, design, motion graphics, visual effects and animation for broadcast advertising, branded content and other forms of visual media.
In addition to heading up the post division, Del Gatto will be available as a director and editor. In his first project under the Original banner, he directed and cut The Ambassadors of Wow, a series of web videos for Jamba Juice and The Neighbor Agency, Los Angeles.
Del Gatto, who has been a commercial editor for more than 15 years, arrives from Foundation Content where he expanded into directing. His work there included web-based video series for United Airlines and real estate developer Del Webb. He also directed and edited two music videos for Matt & Kim. One of those clips, "Cameras," earned inclusion earlier this year (1/28) into SHOOT's The Best Work You May Never See gallery.
Del Gatto's background includes seven years at Terminal Media, an editorial house he founded, and eight years at Red Car. He also had tenures at 89 Editorial and Butcher prior to joining Foundation Content.
Over the years, Del Gatto's work as an editor has received eight AICP Show honors, seven Clios and seven London International Awards. In 2009, he edited while at Butcher a 30-minute film, created by Minneapolis agency Barrie D'Rozario Murphy for the Chambers Hotel, that won a Gold Lion at the Cannes International Advertising Festival and was honored in the Next Experiential category of the '09 AICP Next Awards. (The "Chambers Video Art Piece" was directed by Peter Nydrle of production house Nydrle.) In addition to his advertising work which includes such clients as Budweiser, Sony, Nike, Chevy, Coca-cola, Coors and Lexus, Del Gatto has extensive experience in feature films, documentaries, music videos and shorts.
Del Gatto said that he plans to develop Original's post division into a state-of-the-art digital production studio. "As advertising media continues to expand into web and mobile platforms, the production industry is becoming increasingly post-centric," he observed. "We plan to capitalize on that trend by offering a way to develop projects in creative, smart and modern ways."
Original has production offices in Culver City, California and New York City.
Rob Zombie Directs Horror-Movie Parody for Woolite
2011-06-16 by Tim Nudd
Category: Press Releases

Rob Zombie, who directed the rebooted Halloween and Halloween II movies in recent years, brings more of a Texas Chainsaw Massacre vibe to this new Woolite commercial from Euro RSCG, advising you not to torture you clothes with other detergents. Mr. Zombie, as he is referred to, of course, in the New York Times story, says the spot isn't scary at all—it's "more like a Tim Burton" film than something truly horrifying. The main character, he says, "is like Uncle Fester" from The Addams Family, and not "like some child killer out in the woods." Maybe, but the client still needed some convincing. When we saw the first storyboard we almost flipped from our chairs," says Reckitt Benckiser's Jiri Kulik. "Eventually, with testing, we got more and more comfortable with it."
